NeoCon 2025

A Bold Look at the Future of Commercial Design

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to attend NeoCon in Chicago, one of the most influential commercial design trade shows in the country. Hosted annually at the historic Merchandise Mart, NeoCon brings together the best in commercial design. It’s a beautiful showcase of the industry’s latest innovations, where architects, designers, manufacturers, and thought leaders gather for three days of collaboration, product launches, conversations, and inspiration.

NeoCon is an engaging, multi-level experience, with over ten floors of commercial design brands buzzing with activity. From speaking sessions and panels to lively showrooms and after-hours events, every corner of the Mart had something to offer. Even brands without a direct commercial focus were actively involved. Middleby Residential hosted a thoughtful designer panel, lunch, and happy hour. The Thermador showroom kept the energy high with live music and daily refreshments. Ann Sacks partnered with Farrow & Ball for creative collaborations that brought people in and sparked meaningful conversations.

Throughout the event, two themes stood out: sustainability and bold expression. Brands embraced natural materials, biophilic design, and vibrant color palettes in fresh, unexpected ways. For example, Momentum Textiles and Wallcoverings showcased earth-toned patterns and moss-inspired textures, alongside statement colors and bold prints. Spoonflower pushed the boundaries of commercial wallpaper with fully customizable options, bridging the gap between commercial and residential applications and offering endless creative potential.

Outside of the Mart, the design energy continued. JennAir hosted a stunning brunch at the World of Whirlpool, hosted by Kerrie Kelly. The event featured intentional partnerships and products, including countertops by Cosentino with Freepower wireless charging embedded, and sleek cabinetry by Fabuwood. All of this came to life in a show-stopping rooftop showroom with new kitchens designed by Kerrie herself. One of the highlights was JennAir’s new downdraft induction cooktop. Engineered to eliminate the need for traditional vent hoods, this downdraft is perfect for open-concept kitchens with a view.

NKBA members, top designers, and brand leaders from across the country all came together at NeoCon to celebrate bold ideas and shape the future of design. NeoCon 2025 was a reminder of the power of collaboration, creativity, and showing up in person.

I left feeling inspired, energized, and connected to where the industry is headed.
